Buddhism is a faith that was founded by Siddhartha Gautama (“the Buddha”) more than 2,500 years ago in India.

As we see, Buddhism isn’t that old; it originated around 500 BCE. There are other religions, including Hinduism and Judaism which are much older.

There are approximately 470 million followers around the world from India to Southeast Asia. Other countries have followers including the United States. Some contemporary followers only use elements of Buddhism. The religion has had an influence on both religious and non-religious groups. The word “zen” is used almost universally to describe the concept of “intuition through meditation”. It and has made it to the English dictionary as a result of its use.

Followers of Buddhism don’t acknowledge a supreme god or deity. They instead focus on achieving enlightenment—a state of inner peace and wisdom. When followers reach this spiritual echelon, they’re said to have experienced nirvana.

How does Buddhism grade against our criterion?

This religion is only around 2500 years old, and it doesn’t acknowledge a god or a creator. That’s much younger than the origins of mankind.

It is more of a method for living life than a religious faith. You are free to practice Buddhism, however, it doesn’t address or interact with the creator. If the physical universe were created, there is a creator. This website proceeds on the premise that the universe was created and to find God we need to investigate religions that at least mention a creator.

It can be an effective vehicle for inner peace and meditation, but it doesn’t qualify for research because it doesn’t meet our criteria. It is automatically disqualified.

Also, practicing Buddhism could be an effective distraction from finding God, which is not our intention.
